| Common Sandpiper
Arrives in April to nest on shingle on the stream margins and lake shore, it is here that they find the greatest proportion of their food - flies and beetles. A small but distinctive brown and white wader, with a very characteristic 'wagging' movement whilst feeding and at rest. They also have a very fluttering but direct flight on stiff wings. They do not make a nest, only a scrape in the shingle. There are 15-20 pairs found along the streams and around the lake shore at Vyrnwy. |
