Siskin

One of the smallest of our finches, found in areas dominated by coniferous woodland. From February to August there are to be found on the bird feeders outside Coed-y-Capel hide situated adjacent to the main car park area and RSPB shop. They are small but are quite fearsome as they will see off any unwelcome birds that land on 'their' feeder. They are not bothered by people approaching them and will allow you to get as close as one or two feet before flying away. They are present in large numbers across the reserve, as there are some 2000 hectares of coniferous woodland for them to feed in. They form large flocks in the winter months feeding on birch and alder seeds.
